As systems stand, only accurately matched search terms will cause an ad to appear in search engine results. However, as of mid-May, close deviations of phrase and exact match keywords will be matched. Search terms that may include misspellings, singular/plural forms and even abbreviations will soon be recognised by Google. The changes have been designed to help users get the search results they are seeking, faster and more efficiently.
Early experiments carried out have indicated that, on average, the new improvements introduced have increased AdWords search clicks by 3%. The new changes allows search to be more user-friendly. However, for anyone who wishes to keep their current matching behaviour, there is the option to retain this. During the next few weeks, controls will be introduced to allow people to adjust their keyword matching options.
