On this self-guided hike you will need: – Water – bring lots, you’ll be walking around a beautiful, old-fashioned village and you’ll be climbing lots of steps! – Sunhat – the sun is strong in the summer and you will be walking around outside so a sunhat is essential. – Comfortable walking shoes – again, you will be walking around outside and there are lots of steps. – Camera – it’s a stunning place and the stunning countryside that surrounds Petts Wood (you can look here) means lots of opportunities for stunning photos. – Snacks – you will be able to find some good quality takeaway food in the village but you’ll want to bring your own food with you so you can avoid any extra costs.
For this self-guided hike you’ll want to first visit the village of Petts Wood. It’s a gorgeous village with a large, Georgian centre and a pretty, traditional-style village centre. It’s a beautiful, old-fashioned village and the surrounding countryside is also stunning with rolling hills and stunning views. The village itself is unincorporated and has its own postcode – Bromley BR5. To get here from central London, first head for the M25. From London, follow the M25 clockwise and exit at Junction 1 (Gatwick Airport). Exit the M25, turn right onto the A20 and drive to Junction 5 (A20/Bromley Road). Turn left onto Bromley Road and head for Bromley. Follow Bromley Road until it ends at Petts Wood Roundabout. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Bromley Road and head for the village. Once in Petts Wood, you’ll find lots of great places to stay and eat, including: – The Red Lion – the oldest pub in Petts Wood and one of the most well-known in the area. It has a stonking reputation and is widely considered to be one of the best pubs in the south east of England. It’s located in the heart of Petts Wood and is a great place to stay over. – The Maltings – a stunning hotel that has stunning views across Petts Wood, making it an ideal place to stay. The hotel is located in the centre of the village and is within walking distance of many of Petts Wood’s best-loved attractions.
