How to Hoist Furniture Through a Window
Office Removals Furniture Platform Video
Just before Christmas, Blue Square Management were asked by one of our clients, Casey’s Office Relocations (a London office mover) to photograph them at work during an office removal. The time and date was set, stills camera equipment was prepared, batteries charged and memory cards formatted.
The day arrived, a gloomy, overcast winter’s day at that! But at least it wasn’t raining, better still, not snowing! With equipment packed, off I set…only to be confronted with train problems! Thanks South Eastern Trains! However, with gritted determination, I got to location near Smithfield Marketing in London.
On arriving I set to work documenting the guys from Casey’s Office Relocations undertaking the office removal. I started with some “before” pictures. Photographing each empty office before it became stacked full of moving boxes and furniture. Due to the nature of the “new” office and awkward access – three flights of narrow stairs – Casey’s Office Relocations had to employ their mobile furniture hoist.
Furniture Hoist At Work : Hoist Furniture Through a Third Floor Window
What a machine! The furniture platform hoist made easy work of getting the lorry load of moving boxes, furniture and computer equipment up to the 3rd floor office window. Each load was placed on the platform and “elevated” to the office window, where three professional movers would then unload and place the items in their required place.
This was supposed to be “stills” photography job, not a video project, so I was not prepared for such a task. However, I did have my mobile phone (iPhone 6s) with me, as most people do nowadays. Not to be one to miss an opportunity, I took out my iPhone, went to the Filmic Pro app, and started to shoot video footage of the guys and hoist at work. All handheld, and all in 4K video.

The resulting video (see below) was edited together with some royalty free music used as an audio track. As the video was shoot in 4K, this allowed me to “zoom/crop” in without loosing any detail or quality. However, shooting on a phone does have its limitations. The main ones I found were not having a wide angled lens (though you can buy clip on lenses) and the image sensor size (smaller dynamic range due to the small sensor of the phone). The latter is very evident with some blown out hi-lights in certain situations.
What do you think of the “office removals london” video? I would love to hear your comments.
