Mobile Online Shopping Increasing
According to an article in the Evening Standard last Monday – Monday 2 December – London retailers reported record levels of online sales via smartphones. The first Monday in December has been named “Cyber Monday” but now, after these reports, it could well be called “Mobile Monday”.
Compared to the same day last year (2012), online sales have increased by 16%, however, online orders made on smartphones has increased by almost 25%.
“For many retailers this is the first Christmas that they have had a smartphone friendly website” Adrian Quine, director of the British Online Retailers Association is reported to said.
He also went on to say that there were almost zero sales made via a smartphone two years ago and now, between a fifth and a quarter of all online sales that were made on Mobile Monday were up from via mobile phone.
Tripwire, an online security company, carried out their own survey, which revealed that 63% of UK consumers will use their mobile device (whether that be a smartphone or tablet) at least once to buy their Christmas shopping in 2013.
